Appreciated Securities

Contributing shares of publicly traded securities that have appreciated in value for more than a year can be of great tax benefit. Why? If you sell the stock and contribute the proceeds, you pay capital gains tax on the sale of the shares. If you simply transfer the stock to the FMA Foundation you avoid capital gains on all shares contributed.

The process is simple and can be done in any of the following three ways:

1. Electronic Share Transfer Securities held in book entry can be delivered electronically to the FMA Foundation using the following Depository Trust Company (DTC) delivery information:

Robert W. Baird & Co
DTC #0547
Re: FMA Foundation
Account #33224091DB02
"Donor Name"

When directing a broker to deliver securities via DTC, please instruct them to contact one of these representatives of the Foundation's custodian, Robert W. Baird & Co, prior to delivery: Bruce B. Dearborn or Julie Rowe at 800-333-2300.

2. By Mail If you have the stock certificates in your possession, mail the unendorsed stock certificates by registered mail to our office. Enclose a cover letter outlining the purpose of your contribution, along with a description of the issues and the number of shares and certificates. In a separate mailing, send signed stock power forms for each certificate with the name of the issue filled in and the signature guaranteed by a broker or officer of a national bank. We can sell the stock more readily if you sign a blank stock power without filling in our name.

3. In Person You can hand-deliver certificates to the FMA Foundation Office.
